Large bleeding wounds
It is important to stop the bleeding and get to a doctor or hospital quickly. Ensure the injured person lies down. Lift the wound and hold it up in the air. Stop the bleeding by applying a compression bandage (first-aid dressing) over the wound or cotton wool that has been rolled tightly to form a compress. Roll an elastic gauze bandage around the compression bandage, but not too tightly. Secure the bandage with suture tape or clips. If bleeding continues, press down on the dressing with your hand. |
